Death Skateboards

Skater-owned London company started by Nick Zorlac in 1998, known for its skull-and-crossbones graphics, DIY attitude and light-hearted videos.

History

  • Death was started in London in 1998 and describes itself as skater owned and run. [1][2]
  • It is owned and run by Hertfordshire-born skater Nick 'Zorlac' Orecchio. [2][3]
  • Zorlac says he started the company while injured and unable to skate, wanting to run a skate company entirely his own way. [3]
  • The name refers to the mainstream media declaring skateboarding dead at the end of the 1970s. [1]
  • Its board range began with a simple skull-and-crossbones graphic, which still sells well. [2]
  • Many team riders have lived at the company's base in Harrow, north-west London, nicknamed the 'House of Doom'. [2]
  • Orecchio set up Power Distribution in 1996, which distributes Death alongside Heroin and Landscape. [2]
  • Its videos include Squadrophenia (2004), Escape from Boredom (2006), Ordinary Madness (2013) and Into the Void (premiered at House of Vans London in December 2018). [2][3]
