The Deck Wall is a free archive of skateboard decks. We collect as little about you as we can, never sell it, and only use it to run the site. This page explains what we keep and why.
Who we are
The Deck Wall (thedeckwall.com) is run by Tim Bonnett in the UK, who is responsible for your information (the "data controller"). You can reach us any time through the contact page.
What we collect, and why
- Browsing the site: nothing that identifies you. Our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security, for a short time.
- Stopping spam and abuse: when you send a form or use AI search or photo identification, we keep a scrambled code made from your IP address (not the address itself, and it can't be turned back into it) so we can limit how many each visitor sends. These are deleted after two days.
- Analytics, only if you accept: Google Analytics counts visits and which pages are used. It's off until you say yes, and you can change your mind with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. See Cookies.
- The private preview (before launch): when the preview password is entered, we note the time, the rough location our host provides (town and country), and which invite link was used, so we know who has looked.
- An account: your email address and name, plus the decks you add to your collection or wantlist and your email preferences. We use these to run your account and send the emails you ask for (such as a deck on your wantlist coming up for sale). Your collection is private unless you choose to share it.
- Messages about decks for sale: if you message another collector through the site, we keep the message so they can read and answer it.
- Submitting a deck, a shop, a skate spot or a scene memory: what you send (photos and details) and your email, so we can check it, credit you if you'd like, and get back to you.
- Identifying a deck from a photo: the photo is sent to our AI provider to suggest matches. It isn't used to train their models, and we don't keep it unless you go on to submit it.
- Contact and removal requests: your name, email and message, so we can answer you and keep a record of what we removed or changed.
The legal bases are: running the service you've asked for (your account, your messages), your consent (analytics, optional emails), and our legitimate interest in keeping the archive accurate and the site secure.
Who helps us run the site
We use a few trusted services, each only for its part of the job:
- Vercel: hosting, file storage and cookie-free visit counts (Vercel Web Analytics)
- Neon: our database (in London)
- Our email host: sending and receiving emails, from our own hello@thedeckwall.com mailbox
- Google: analytics, only if you accept
- Anthropic: the AI behind deck identification and search
- eBay: listings shown on deck pages, through eBay's Partner Network
Some of these are based in the US. Where your information leaves the UK, it's protected by the safeguards UK law requires (such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum).
How long we keep it
Account information stays while you have an account. Ask us through the contact page to delete your account and we'll remove it and your collection, apart from anything we must keep by law. Submissions you've sent stay with the archive (credited as you chose). Contact and removal messages are kept for up to two years.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Just get in touch. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
