UK brand

Insane

Art, skateboard and clothing brand started by UK artist and skateboarder Ged Wells, known for surreal, often animal-based graphics. Still run by Wells today as Insane Emporium.

History

  • Founded in 1984 by UK artist and skateboarder Ged Wells. [1]
  • A December 1989 magazine piece describes Insane as backed by Slam City and Rough Trade, selling through skate shops. [2]
  • Graphics of that era included cat'n'mouse, dog eat dog, hand, mouth, foot, tortoise and assorted fish designs. [2]
  • The brand's own history covers 1984 to the mid 1990s. [1]
  • The Fountain graphic and the Insane Cow character both date from around 1991. Both have since come back on new decks sold by Insane Emporium. [3]
