Unabomber

Nottingham-founded company started in 1997 to reflect a distinctly British, anti-corporate attitude to skateboarding.

History

  • Unabomber was founded in Nottingham in 1997 by Pete Hellicar and Jon Robson. [1][2]
  • The founders aimed to reflect a British attitude to skateboarding rather than borrow from American culture, with an anti-corporate outlook. [1][2]
  • Its VHS video Headcleaner came out in 2001, featuring riders including Vaughan Baker, Paul Silvester, Mark Channer and Alan Rushbrooke. [1][3]
  • Slam City Skates sold hundreds of Headcleaner VHS copies from its Neal's Yard shop. [3]
  • Other videos include Unapromo (1998), Up The Rebels (2004) and Le Bombe (2013), filmed in Montpellier. [2][1]
  • The brand is distributed by 12Distribution and still makes decks, wheels and clothing. [1]

Sources disagree

  • Some secondary sources also credit Harry Bastard as a co-founder and say Rollersnakes bought the brand in 2003; this could not be confirmed from a fetched page.
