John Lucero

John Lucero was a professional skater in the 1980s, riding for Variflex, Madrid and Schmitt Stix. He is credited as one of the first to bring skatepark tricks to Southern California's streets, and he helped develop the no comply and the slappy. In 1988 he started Lucero Ltd, with boards made by Santa Cruz, and in 1990 he turned it into the independent Black Label, which he still runs. Black Label has given early boards to riders such as Jason Dill, Gino Iannucci and John Cardiel, and Lucero has drawn many of its graphics himself.
