Mike Smith
Mike Smith is a vert skater from Hermosa Beach, California, who came up in the late 1970s and early 1980s and appeared on Thrasher's cover in June 1981 and January 1982. He is credited with inventing the Smith stall, which became the Smith grind, along with the Smithvert. His Madrid 'Duck' model from 1985 is one of the brand's best-known boards, and he went on to found Liberty Skateboards. He was inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2021.
