Element

Element is an American skateboard company started by Johnny Schillereff in 1992, originally trading as Underworld Element. It was built around a tree logo and an environmental outlook, and was bought by Boardriders in 2018.

History

  • Element was founded in 1992 by skateboarder Johnny Schillereff. [1][2]
  • The brand originally operated as Underworld Element, releasing early videos such as Skypager, which featured Andy Howell. [3]
  • Schillereff built the brand with environmental concerns at its heart, and a tree sits at the centre of its logo. [2]
  • In 2014 Element moved into The Branch, a creative space in Costa Mesa, California. [1][3]
  • Element released the video This Is My Element in 2007, directed and produced by Schillereff, with parts from riders including Nyjah Huston, Chad Muska, Bam Margera and Mike Vallely. [4]
  • The brand marked its 25th anniversary in 2017 with plans for a book, a US tour and a full-length team video. [2]
  • Element was acquired by Boardriders, Inc. in 2018. [1]
  • In February 2025 Liberated Brands, which ran Element's shops, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the Element stores were set to close. [1]
