Vision Street Wear

Vision began as Brad Dorfman's Vision Sports in 1976 and became one of the biggest skateboard companies of the 1980s, with pro decks for Gator Rogowski and Mark Gonzales and the Vision Street Wear clothing line.

History

  • Brad Dorfman founded Vision in 1976, reportedly starting out selling skateboards from his car at the beach. [1][2][3]
  • Vision's first pro model, released in 1984, was for Mark 'Gator' Rogowski and was designed by Greg Evans. [1]
  • Andy Takakjian designed the Mark Gonzales pro model (1985) and the Psycho Stick (1986). [1]
  • In the mid-1980s the company launched the Vision Street Wear clothing brand, later adding shoes and expanding into BMX. [1][2]
  • Vision's 1988 video Psycho Skate featured riders including Mark Gonzales, Gator Rogowski, Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi and Rodney Mullen. [3]
  • The company's size and the departure of skaters to start their own companies are cited as reasons for its decline. [3]
  • The trademark was sold to Collective Brands in 2004, and Authentic Brands Group acquired the licensing rights in 2014. [1]

Sources disagree

  • Ownership: Wikipedia says the trademark was sold to Collective Brands (Payless) in 2004, while a 2007 Skate and Annoy post says Dorfman had recently sold Vision Streetwear to Canadian company Lifestyle Inc.
