Zero

Zero was started by pro skater Jamie Thomas in 1996, beginning as a clothing brand before becoming a skateboard company. Its videos and hard-hitting team made it a leading street brand, winning Thrasher's King of the Road three years running.

History

  • Zero was formed in 1996 as a clothing company before becoming a skateboard brand. [1]
  • Pro skater Jamie Thomas founded the brand, which was distributed by his Black Box Distribution. [1][2]
  • Zero's first video, Thrill of It All (1997), featured Thomas's attempt at the 'Leap of Faith' at Point Loma High School in San Diego; he did not land it, but the attempt became famous. [2][1]
  • Zero won three consecutive Thrasher King of the Road contests, from 2004 to 2006. [1]
  • Zero rider Chris Cole won Thrasher's Skater of the Year award twice; he left the brand in 2014. [1][2]
  • Dwindle Distribution took over distribution in 2014, but in 2016 Zero returned to independent operation under Thomas. [1]
  • Scottish pro John Rattray, raised in Aberdeen, signed with Zero before moving to the United States. [3]

Sources disagree

  • Early distribution: Wikipedia's Zero article says the brand was distributed by Thomas's Black Box Distribution, while Wikipedia's Jamie Thomas article says he started Zero in 1996 through Tum Yeto.
