Toy Machine

Toy Machine is a skateboard company started by pro skater and artist Ed Templeton, who draws all of its graphics. It is distributed by Tod Swank's Tum Yeto and made the landmark 1996 video Welcome to Hell.

History

  • Ed Templeton founded Toy Machine after Tod Swank agreed to back the idea, following the end of his earlier brands TV and Television. [2]
  • Unable to choose between 'Toy Skateboards' and 'Machine Skateboards', Templeton took fellow pro Ethan Fowler's suggestion to combine the two. [1]
  • Templeton produces all of the brand's artwork, with graphics featuring aliens, goofy faces and close-ups of cartoon eyes. [2][3]
  • Toy Machine is distributed by Tod Swank's Tum Yeto. [1][2]
  • Jamie Thomas joined Toy Machine in 1995 and filmed and directed two of its videos, including Welcome to Hell (1996), one of the most influential skate videos of the 1990s. [4][1]
  • Its videos include Live! (1994), Heavy Metal (1995), Welcome to Hell (1996), Jump Off a Building (1998), Good and Evil (2004), Suffer the Joy (2006), Brainwash (2010) and Programming Injection (2019). [1]
  • Team rider Leo Romero was Thrasher's Skater of the Year in 2010. [2]
  • English pro Geoff Rowley was announced as joining the Toy Machine team on 27 May 2024. [5]
