Anti Hero

Julien Stranger's San Francisco brand, started in 1995 under Deluxe as a raw counterweight to what he and friends saw as a stale skate scene.

History

  • Julien Stranger started Anti Hero in 1995 after a suggestion from Deluxe's Jim Thiebaud. [1][2]
  • Stranger was riding for Real at the time and the brand ran under Deluxe (DLXSF) in San Francisco. [3]
  • John Cardiel has been a core member since the company began. [1][3]
  • Todd Francis designed the pigeon logo in 1996 and later the eagle logo that became the main symbol. [3]
  • Stranger and Thrasher editor Jake Phelps felt skateboarding had gone stale, and Anti Hero was meant to balance that out. [4][1]
  • Anti Hero and Girl made the Beauty and the Beast video series together. [4]

Sources disagree

  • Shredz describes John Cardiel as a co-founder; Wikipedia names Julien Stranger as sole founder and Cardiel as a core member from the start.
