Stereo

Stereo was founded in San Francisco in 1992 by Jason Lee and Chris 'Dune' Pastras, and became known for jazz-influenced graphics and Super 8 videos. After a few years out of business, the pair revived it in 2003.

History

  • Jason Lee and Chris 'Dune' Pastras founded Stereo in San Francisco in 1992, with help from Deluxe Distribution. [1][2][3][4]
  • Stereo set out to go against the grain of the early-1990s industry, using jazz imagery, Pastras's artwork and Super 8 skate footage instead of the cartoon and gore graphics common at the time. [1][3][5]
  • The company released the videos A Visual Sound (1994) and Tincan Folklore (1996). [5][1]
  • After it had been defunct for a few years, Lee and Pastras revived Stereo in 2003. [2]
  • Lee and Pastras remain the only owners, with Pastras running the brand day to day; the brand is now distributed by Syndrome. [3]
