Powell Peralta

History

• George Powell, a Stanford-educated engineer, began making skateboards and urethane wheels in the mid-1970s before teaming up with Stacy Peralta. [1][3]
• Peralta, formerly of the Z-Boys, left G&S to partner with Powell, handling team management and advertising. [1][3]
• The Bones Brigade team was formed in 1979; members included Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill and Alan Gelfand. [1][3]
• The company made influential skate videos from 1982, including the Bones Brigade Video Show and The Search for Animal Chin (1987). [1][2]
• Vernon Courtlandt Johnson (VCJ) created much of the brand's artwork, including the Skull and Sword graphic, and returned to draw for the brand in March 2011. [3][1]
• Smaller companies such as World Industries took market share in the late 1980s; by 1991 Peralta had left and the business became Powell Corporation. [1]
• After the founders reunited to reissue classic decks, Powell Skateboards and Powell Classic were folded back into Powell-Peralta in late 2010. [1]
• Powell-Peralta was inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2016. [2][3]
